ASRITHA engaged with children’s homes being run by the state government of Telangana to provide the support in counselling, tracing of families and reuniting the children with their parents or guardians. Before starting our interventions, we approach the respective department and get into collaboration to visit the homes regularly and provide services in the selected homes. In the process, our Counsellors visit the homes and get the family information of the child and identify the reason for leaving home. This helps us to understand the social, economic and behavioural aspects of the family members of the child and provide needful counselling. The children, who are willing to stay with the parents and whose family living situations are healthier, are reunited with the parents. In case, those who are not
willing to go back to the families due to their family socio-economic conditions, are referred to various institutions to provide them comprehensive residential care as per the orders of the Child Welfare Committee.
This is an important component that we started in the government children’s home aiming to sensitize the home staff and involve them in the process of child reunion with the families. So that they can continue this methodology and help more children, who have been in the home for a long duration.
ASRITHA had organized 4 camps from 2012 to 2016 through which 100 children were successfully reunited with their family members after a long duration of stay in the home.
