M. Srikanth’s Journey: From Street to Success M. Srikanth, who joined ASRITHA’s Boys Home Nalabazar on May 7, 2011, faced a challenging start with his father and stepmother. Discovered by our social mobilizer while helping on the streets, he was enrolled in our care for education and protection. Despite his initial dropout status, Srikanth excelled academically, passing 10th grade with a 7.2 GPA and completing Intermediate with 60% at Y.M.C.A New Junior College. Currently, Srikanth is in his first year of B.Com at Government Degree College, Sithafalmandi, with aspirations of becoming a police officer. How the child came to us:

Our social mobilizer on doing outreach at L.B.Nagar and saw the child playing and helping their parents on the street works.  Our staff met him and counselled him, he introduced his stepmother to us. We visited their hut and informed them that the mother of the child died in his childhood and we counselled his parents and suggested putting the child in studies in our Child care home. The parents agreed and joined our Boy’s Home Nalabazar for education, care and protection.

Family background:

The child's parents are daily labour workers in their village. Since they did not get daily labour regularly, they took debts in the village and poor economic families. Looking at the financial situation their family moved to Hyderabad for daily wage work to settle the debts. Incidentally, the boy has two elder sisters and one younger brother siblings.

After coming to Home:

ASRITHA provided admission to the child and gave a bridge course for 9th months and then mainstreamed to 4th class in regular schooling. He passed his 10th class with a grade of 7.2 and was admitted to Intermediate C.E.C. with 60% in Y.M.C.A New Junior College, Secunderabad. Our home also ensured to focus on extra-curricular activities encouraged active participation in cultural activities and also focused on life skills.

Present status of the child:

Presently the child is pursuing his B.Com I year in Government Degree College, Sithafalmandi. The boy is aiming to become a good Police Officer. The boy is a disciplined, hardworking child and inspires other children too.
